Grace G. (George) Corrigan, mother of educator astronaut Christa Corrigan McAuliffe, passed away on November 8, 2018.
Grace was an apt name – she was so graceful in her poise after the Challenger tragedy, and so inspiring in her long-term work to keep alive Christa’s educational dream. We all honor and appreciate her and mourn her passing.
She put extra attention over these years to Framingham State University where her daughter Christa went to school, and helped found its McAuliffe Center for Integrated Science Learning and its Challenger Learning Center.
Grace is survived by her two sons, Christopher & Stephen; two daughters, Lisa & Elizabeth; son-in-law Steven McAuliffe of NH; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Edward C. Corrigan; her brother Stephen George; and her daughter, Christa McAuliffe, who died in the space shuttle Challenger accident on January 28, 1986.
