OUR MISSION

Collage of moon landing astronauts portraits with names, dates, and missions, featuring the Astronauts Memorial Foundation logo at the center.

The Astronauts Memorial Foundation honors and memorializes those astronauts who have sacrificed their lives for the advancement of human spaceflight and inspires future generations of space explorers.

When we look to the stars, we see more than distant worlds, we see courage, innovation, and the human spirit pushing beyond limits.

The Astronauts Memorial Foundation was born from tragedy after the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986. Created so the names of the fallen would never fade, and their dreams would forever fuel the pursuit of discovery.

At the heart of Kennedy Space Center stands the “Space Mirror Memorial” our nation’s official memorial to fallen astronauts.
Twenty-five names are etched in shining granite, illuminated twenty-four hours a day, symbolizing the light of those who dared to go first, who reached higher, and who gave everything for humankind’s journey beyond Earth.

Their sacrifice was not the end of their story. It was the beginning of ours.

Through the Center for Space Education, established in 1994, we carry their legacy forward. This living memorial transforms remembrance into action inspiring learners of every age to dream boldly and reach fearlessly.

Here, students, teachers, industry professionals, and space enthusiasts from across the world gather to explore, compete, and create through STEM programs, national conferences, and hands-on competitions, at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Every lesson taught, every rocket launched, every student inspired becomes a tribute to those who gave their lives so that humanity could rise.

Their legacy lives only as long as we continue their mission.
